Cours Mirabeau is like Main Street in Aix. It is lined with plane trees, fountains, cafes, and restaurants. It links the old city with the Mazarin district.
The Place d'Albertas and fountain is baroque and rococo style architecture, completed in 1745 for the Marquis d'Albertas. It is based on the royal squares in Paris. The fountain was built in 1862.
The buildings had many wonderful sculptures that added to the charming aspect of the city.
The teachers enjoyed exploring the Passage Agard, a former Camelite monastery that links the Cours Mirabeau with the Law Courts where there is a weekly outdoor market
Another interesting sculpture on a building. It gives an interesting, spooky flavor to the city.
Saint-Sauveur Cathedral features architectural styles from the 5th to 17th century.
Place de Cardeurs is an Italian-style explanade dotted with cafe and restaurants. It was quite charming in the early evening.
At Place Charles de Gaulle, La Rotonde Fountain, erected in 1860, is surrounded by three statues representing Law, Agriculture, and Art.
Aix is an amazing city, and I'm confident that Parkway students will have the chance to visit it with their host families. There's definitely a lot to see and do.
