All Aboard the Parkway TGV!

We arrived at Gare de Lyon promptly for our TGV (train a grande vitesse - high speed train) to Aix-en-Provence. We got to the station about 2:30, and our train didn't leave until 3:07, so we had some time to orient ourselves in order to find the right platform for our train.

Parkway students learned that it's important to look at the screen listing all the trains arriving and departing from the station. This screen gives information about arrival/departure times as well as platform locations. Additionally, students discovered that they have to validate their tickets before they get on the train so they're ready for ticket controls during the voyage.

We're all ready to go: platform located, ticket validated, luggage in hand. The TGV is a technological marvel, traveling at speeds of 150-200 miles per hour. Our trip from Paris to Aix-en-Provence would take about three hours.

Boarding took a little while as we had to wait for the SNCF employees to check the tickets and tell us where our seats were.

The ticket provided lots of information about car number, seat assignment, hours of the voyage. And it was all in French! What a great souvenir! This train trip cost about 36 euros. Not a bad deal!

Once on board, we had another challenge with where to put all of our bags on the train car. Fortunately, Johnathan from Parkway North demonstrated a lot of leadership and figured out a spot for every bag! Without him, loading the train car would have been a lot harder!

Everybody on board, the bags in place, we could sit back and enjoy the three hour train trip. The time gave us a chance to relax, practice our French, and get ready for the next stop of our French adventure: family homestays!
