Museums, Cathedrals and Steps

Another busy day for the Parkway students.  Our plan was to visit the Louvre, Notre Dame and Sainte Chappelle.  But first, we had to figure out the metro route to get to those places.

-We're having a lot of fun together, staying in groups of 3 as we explore this marvelous city.

The Parkway groups were divided by school as they visited the museum, and we got a 60-minute guided tour and saw Venus de Milo statue, Georges de la Tour paintings, and Winged Victory sculpture.  The Louvre was crowded, but we managed to see a lot in a short time.

Of course, you can't go to the Louvre without seeing the Mona Lisa.  She's in her own room, waiting for us to show up and admire her.  The crowds were amazing, but our group was brave and worked their way to the front and got a lot of extraordinary pictures of this masterpiece.

Once we finished the Louvre, we had a quick walk (and lunch) to the Notre Dame Cathedral. We were going to climb the steps to the top and see extraordinary views of Paris.

The gargoyles have an amazing view of the city and we were able to join them! What a sight!

To get to the top, we had to climb lots of medieval, windy steps up the side of the museum. It was quite a hike, but once we made it, we could snap as many pictures as we liked of the city while we cooled down from the exercise.

Then we headed to Sainte Chappelle to see the most beautiful stained glass windows in the world. Sainte Chappelle is a church built b Louis IX (patron saint of Saint Louis) to house the crown of thorns that he got during the crusades. The uppper chapel where all the stained glass is was the site for royal worship. Commoners stayed below.

We had some free time after Sainte Chappelle, so students explored the city and then met back to go to Montmartre.

We had a fabulous dinner at a restaurant just behind the basilica.

The restaurant offered a fixed price meal of 13 euros for a appetizer, main dish, and dessert. You can't beat that!

We had worked up quite an appetite going up all the steps to Montmartre!

Once we finished dinner and shopped a bit, we headed back to the hotel. What a busy day! More adventures to come!
