My computer unceremoniously restarted last night right as I was in the middle of a blog post, so I lost everything I had written. So, with renewed energy, I'll try to write about what we did.
Our flight was great -- no trouble and everybody got through customs and reclaimed their luggage without issue. We met our tour guide and off we went to Giverny to see Monet's Gardens. We had a very busy schedule even as we were fighting jet lag. A couple of students from South got sick, but Central students sailed through the long day. We were tired, but we managed fine without losing our good humor, and every stop was a great adventure. Monet's Gardens were beautiful even though it rained on us as we visited the site.
We had lunch at a rest stop along the way -- something fast so that we could get to Caen so we could tour the city properly. Our bus is comfortable -- one of those soft, luxury buses with plenty of room. Our bus driver, Jose is quite nice too. He gets lost a lot because the signs in France aren't clear about parking for the tourist places that we visit. But he has a good nature, and he is very quick to find a pedestrian to help him with directions. He always gets us to our locations safely, and he can turn the bus in the tightest of corners with such expertise. He's amazing!
Our city tour of Caen gave us plenty of opportunities for pictures. The city is amazing with its cathedral and ancient castle. Most of the city has been restored because of the damage from World War 2 bombings, but the castle wasn't destroyed because the allies protected it.
The cathedral is amazing with its flying buttresses and stained glass windows.
After our visit of Caen, we had dinner at this fabulous bistro for just 12 euros. They served us turkey, french fries, salad, and a tiramasu. They even had a vegetarian dish. Following such a long day, we were hungry! Then we checked in our three-star hotel, Novatel, and we got a good night's sleep. What a long day, but we're in France, having fun!
